About Me

In keeping with my interdisciplinary background in American Civilization, my courses include political thought, the American presidency, history of crime in America, and the Civil War and Reconstruction. The latter is my research focus: co-author Peter Blanck and I have recently published Race, Ethnicity, and Disability: Veterans and Benefits in Post-Civil War America (Cambridge University Press). I have also written To Appomattox and Beyond: The Civil War Soldier in War and Peace (Ivan R. Dee), co-edited anthologies titled The Civil War Soldier and The Civil War Veteran (both New York University Press), and have articles in the Journal of Interdisicplinary History, the Journal of American History, Historical Methods, the Journal of Social History, the Journal of Family History, and the Wake Forest Law Review.
