BASIC LIBRARY INFORMATION

  • We are the Leland Speed Library.  We share the online catalog (MICAL) with the Mississippi College Law Library, which is in downtown Jackson.

  • The college ID serves as the library card.  It is used to check out books and other library materials, access your library record online, and renew books online.

  • The Novell (McNet) username and password is used to access databases and other electronic resources from off campus.  If a student doesn’t know his username and password, there is a look-up site on the MC web site.  Direct the student to the MC home page/ click on e-mail access/ click on the “need your account information” link (https://www.mc.edu/base/StudentRetrieve.php) .  Students who know their password but are having difficulty with off campus access should be directed to the Reference Librarian on duty.

  • Wireless access is available in all areas of the library.  Students may choose the guest access or may log in using the Novell (McNet) username and password.

  • Computers are available for MC students on the top floor of the library.  The computers are accessible via McNet login.  Students may download, e-mail or print from these computers.  Microsoft software (Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint) are available on the computers.  Sometimes guests (other than students) who are affiliated with the college are allowed to use the computers – check with a staff member or Reference Librarian.

  • The catalog for finding books, DVD’s, CD’s – all materials owned by the library – is called MICAL.  It is available on the web at http://mical.mc.edu (no password needed).  Some student workers will work with Millenium (provided by Innovative Interfaces, Inc), the system used by staff members to manage library functions.

  • Group study rooms are available in the basement and top floor of the library on a first come – first served basis.  Refer requests for study room reservations to the Reference Librarian on duty.

  • The library has several special locations, as designated on the call number of materials.

F – Fiction – located in the basement at end of Dewey numbering system
