Carol Joy Sparkman
About Me
Carol Joy Sparkman is a member of the Mississippi College music faculty where she serves as teacher of language diction, is a vocal coach/accompanist, coordinator of accompanying, directs Mixed Company, a vocal jazz ensemble, and is Musical Director for The Mississippi College Opera/Musical Theater. Sparkman received the Bachelor of Music in Education and a Master of Music in Vocal Coaching/Accompanying degrees from Mississippi College. In 1987 she became an adjunct instructor in the music department. From 1998-2006 she was the Managing/Artistic Director of the Mississippi College Naturals.
Mrs. Sparkman has been sponsor of Laguna, a women’s social club on campus, since 1991. She serves on the Mississippi American Choral Directors Association Board as Repertoire and Standards Chair for Membership. In the summer of 2006, with music department faculty member Robert Knupp, she created and co-directed the first Music Camp at Mississippi College (MC@MC).
Sparkman is known throughout the United States as a premier accompanist. She has accompanied students and faculty in workshops with Leontyne Price, Richard Miller and Karen Peeler. She is a frequent accompanist for choral festivals and played under the baton of Luigi Zaninelli, The University of Southern Mississippi, James Morrow, The University of Texas, John Dickson, Mercer University, and Bob Chilcott, United Kingdom.
