Students can apply for admission to an academic program and meet the English proficiency requirements using TOEFL or IELTS scores. If students can show English proficiency with the required minimum test scores, then the requirement to take the institution’s English proficiency exam will be waived. See the chart below for the minimum score requirements.

In order for the TOEFL or IELTS scores to be considered for admission, a score record must be sent directly to Mississippi College from the testing facility. Students cannot submit certified or notarized copies in place of originals.
As a provision, once students are admitted to the university and arrive, they will be further assessed by their professors. Students will receive assessment cards from the Office of Global Education to give to their professors. The professors will then return the card to the Office of Global Education within the first two weeks of class with their own assessment of the student’s English proficiency. If it is determined that the student is not able to handle the rigor of academics due to a lack of English proficiency, he/she will be placed into the Intensive English Program.
Please note! If international students have graduated with a degree from a US university, he or she can apply for general admission without English proficiency test scores. Those students who come from countries that English is their first language do not require to take the TOEFL test.
Students can also apply for admission to an academic program without TOEFL or IELTS scores. If the student meets the minimal requirements for academic admission, he or she will be ‘conditionally’ admitted based on the ability to demonstrate English proficiency. The student can do this two ways: 1) make a passing score on the institution’s English proficiency exam upon arrival to the university, or 2) enroll and graduate from the institution’s Intensive English Program. Once the student demonstrates English proficiency, he or she will be allowed to meet their academic adviser and enroll in their chosen course of study.
