William Dunlap’s paintings, sculptures and constructions appeared in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the Aspen Museum of Art, to name a few of the outstanding venues.

The immensely talented Mississippi College graduate is well-known for his Southern landscapes, and rural images around the USA. Dunlap serves as a noted arts commentator. He is a former art professor.

On February 7, Dunlap will lecture to MC art students at the undergraduate level, graduate students and special guests at the Gore Gallery. The “Art About Art” program begins at 10 a.m. that Tuesday on the Clinton campus.

“Bill is a wonderfully skilled and creative talent,” says Gore Galleries Director Randy Jolly. “Mississippi is so lucky to have an artist of his quality. His work reflects his past, present and future.”

On February 6, Dunlap’s works will be showcased at the Gore Gallery at a program that begins at 6 p.m. The digital presentation and lecture will be free. It’s open to the public. Some of his stunning works during a splendid career spanning decades stayed on display at the MC gallery for several months.

“We are excited to have him here and be able to share with him these wonderful works,” Jolly said.

Born in 1944, Dunlap raves about the art skills he polished under the eye of Mississippi College professors like Samuel Gore, retired chairman of the Christian university’s Art Department.

Dunlap appeared on a panel at the State Capitol over the summer at the Mississippi Book Festival. He was on the arts panel with photojournalist Barbara Gauntt, author of the book “Samuel Marshall Gore: Blessed With Tired Hands.”

Filled with Gauntt’s wonderful photographs, the book tells of Gore’s distinguished career of more than 60 years. Gauntt worked for more than two decades as a photographer at “The Clarion-Ledger.” Her book was published last year by the University Press of Mississippi in Jackson.

Dunlap taught art at Appalachian State University in North Carolina and the University of Memphis. He received his MFA at the University of Mississippi.
