Staffers at Christian radio station STAR 93.5 are helping spread the word about the Will Graham Celebration at Mississippi College.

They’re also expected to be worn out covering the March 28-30 revival featuring the grandson of legendary preacher Billy Graham. Top Christian bands will perform at the A.E. Wood Coliseum that weekend as they proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“We will be out there the whole weekend covering it with live remotes,” said STAR 93.5 general manager Doug Amacker. “We are telling people about it on our broadcasts.”

STAR 93.5 reaches thousands of listeners in Central Mississippi cities like Jackson, Yazoo City, Hazlehurst, Pearl and Brandon.

The free Will Graham celebration, he said, is a wonderful opportunity to share God’s love with people from all over the Magnolia State and beyond. “For those three days, we will really be busy. But it’s all for a good cause,” Amacker said when reached Tuesday at the headquarters of the Mississippi College radio station in Aven Hall.

The STAR 93.5 general manager has already interviewed Will Graham, but Amacker believes there will be time for band members to discuss their faith and music when they stop by the radio station on the Clinton campus.

With styles ranging from contemporary to hip-hop, rock to the sounds of worship, the diverse musical acts will bring award-winning artists to the Jackson area.

Performers include Grammy Award-nominated artists like the Rhett Walker Band, and Canton Jones plus acclaimed Christian music stars such as Paul Baloche and Matthew West. Dove Award New Artist of the Year and Album of the Year winners The Afters and Texas-based hip-hop star Tedashii round out the list.

“We hope the community is as excited as we are with the great artists who will be here, and will come out to see awesome performances followed by Will’s inspiring messages,” said event director Bob Hickling.

In addition to the nightly celebration events, there is a special event for children called KidzFest that takes place 10 a.m. on Saturday March 29. The kid-oriented band, Go Fish, will entertain the crowd.

Will Graham is the third generation of Grahams to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ under the banner of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association of North Carolina.

MC students including senior Lee McCarty of Meridian plan to attend the celebration on the Clinton campus.

“I am really excited that Mississippi College is the venue for this event because it can use its facilities and convenient location to reach students and others for Christ,” McCarty said.

His cousin, MC sophomore Kaitlin McCarty of Flowood, is also looking forward to hearing the preaching and the worship led by fabulous Christian bands.

“I know that personally, as a student, college can be demanding on my time, and it is so important to maintain a healthy, growing walk with the Lord,” Kaitlin said. “This is a free opportunity that will be beneficial to students and adults alike.”

Area churches, from First Baptist Church Clinton to Morrison Heights Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Jackson are among dozens of congregations assisting with planning the celebration.
