Dr. Randy Miley Delivers Lecture Monday at Mississippi College


Mississippi College art lovers get to hear one of their own -MC Department of Art Chairman Randy Miley - deliver a lecture on the Clinton campus Monday evening.

"Enriching, motivating and rewarding'' are the three words that Dr. Miley uses to describe his three decades as an art educator.

On Monday at 7 p.m., Miley will present a lecture titled "Grant Wood's American Gothic: Let the Painting Speak.'' The event is free and open to the public at Provine Chapel.

A reception will follow the MC distinguished lecture series on the first floor of the chapel. Constructed in 1860, Provine is MC's oldest building.

Miley, who grew up in south Jackson, is a graduate of Hinds Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi. A former teacher at Warren Central High in Vicksburg, Miley received a master's degree in art from Mississippi College and doctorate from the University of Florida.

A former professor at the University of Louisiana, Monroe, Miley came to MC as a professor and chairman of the Department of Art in 1999.He and his wife, Vicky, who teaches art at Pearl High School, are the parents of two sons, Matthew, a graduate student in art at Florida State, and Mark, a senior math major at MC.
