MC School of Business Students Receive Scholarships

J. Taylor Clemmer, who's on track to graduate from Mississippi College in December with a bachelor's degree in accounting, recently received the Hamp King award.

A Madison Central High graduate, Clemmer picked up the $2,000 award that honors the memory of King, who served many years as Mississippi's state auditor.

The scholarship comes from the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants. Its Education & Scholarships Committee recently approved awards totaling $23,000 in scholarships to top students in accounting at Mississippi's colleges and universities.

Clemmer is an outstanding student at MC with a perfect 4.0 in accounting and the same average for his courses overall. He was a member of the MC tennis team during his freshmen and sophomore years. He was named NCAA Division III men's Rookie of the Year as an MC freshman tennis player. He was a member of the MC golf team during his junior year.

The awards keep coming for Clemmer. On Friday, Nov. 9, the Madison resident received an additional scholarship check from the Mississippi Tax Institute during the group's annual program at the Jackson Hilton Hotel.

Taking classes at the Mississippi College School of Business, he said, "has been a good experience,'' and prepared him for the workplace. By receiving such scholarships "you are getting rewarded for the hard work you've done,'' Clemmer said Thursday.

Other scholarship winners at the MC School of Business include Carrie Jones, who is expected to receive her master's degree in business administration in December. Jones received the Gary E. Thornton Memorial Scholarship awarded through the MSCPA Education Foundation. Jones, a graduate of the Lamar School in Meridian, was awarded $1,000 for the honor. Jones also has a perfect 4.0 in accounting and a 4.0 overall GPA. She is a member of the Mortar Board and is a member of Pinelake Church children's music ministry.

MC School of Business Dean Marcelo Eduardo, and accounting professors Sandra Parks and Wayne Nix were on hand to congratulate Clemmer and Jones for their achievements.
