Student Conduct Terms
Incident Report: A report detailing an on-campus incident.
Summons Form: A form requiring a student to make an appointment to see the Coordinator of Student Development.
Preliminary Hearing: A student’s hearing with the Coordinator of Student Development to discuss the judicial process, receive a Charge Letter, and enter a plea.
Charge Letter: A letter detailing the charges against a student and the time and location of his or her formal hearing.
Formal Hearing: A hearing before a body designated by the Chief Judicial Officer.
Men’s Affairs Board: A board composed of students living in each of the male residence halls charged with hearing cases involving conduct in the residence halls.
Women’s Affairs Board: A board composed of students living in each of the female residence halls charged with hearing cases involving conduct in the residence halls.
Student Judicial Council: A board composed of six persons, three male and three female members, charged with hearing cases involving conduct violations.
Campus Judicial Committee: A body designated by the Chief Judicial Officer to hear cases usually of a serious nature; members include a student representative and faculty and staff members.
Hearing Procedures: Procedures for hearing bodies which are established in The Tomahawk.
Complainant: A student or member of the College community alleging misconduct against a student.
Accused: A student accused of a Student Code violation.
Chief Judicial Officer: A college official authorized by the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Dean of Students to be responsible for the ongoing or temporary administration of the Student Code.
Sanctions: Punishment(s) for violation of the Student Code.
Sanction Letter: A letter from the Assistant Director of Student Life for Student Development outlining Sanctions imposed by a hearing body.
Appeal: A request for a hearing to determine the fairness of the original hearing; whether the decision reached was based on evidence; to determine whether the sanctions were fair; or to consider new evidence.
Appellate Body: A body designated by the Chief Judicial Officer to hear Appeals.
Final Appeal: A student’s last opportunity to have a body’s decision reconsidered.
