Welcome to the Administration of Justice Program at Mississippi College. I am Dr. Harry Porter, Director of the Administration of Justice Program. Our program is the home of quality, caring professional faculty members who emphasize ethical values in the fields of Criminal Justice, Homeland Security/Emergency Management, and Loss Prevention.

Since its inception in 1984, the Mississippi College Administration of Justice Program provides its students with exceptional faculty members from diverse backgrounds who help students develop the necessary critical thinking skills to compete in the multi-faceted world of criminal justice.  Our program graduates outstanding individuals who secure top jobs and become leaders at the local, state, and federal levels of law enforcement and in the private security industry.

Since June of 1984, the Mississippi College Administration of Justice Program has had over 225 Bachelor of Science graduates as well as 65 graduates in the Master of Social Science Program. Our graduates are currently enjoying careers at the local, state, and federal levels as well as in private industry.

Administration of Justice Faculty

The Administration of Justice faculty pledge to provide our students with the instruction and personal guidance necessary for achieving their career goals. Administration of Justice faculty members have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to teaching and advising their students.  

Our Administration of Justice faculty members are adept at advising students on their career goals. The vast majority of our faculty members have actual professional experience in the fields they teach. The level of education provided by our experienced faculty has become the foundation for the success of our graduates.

Our faculty utilize their connections at the local, state, and federal levels to help our students with internships and future employment opportunities. Below, you will find a listing of current Administration of Justice faculty and adjunct professors.

Program Director: Dr. Harry Porter

Dr. Porter received his Doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi. He has been been the Director of the Administration of Justice Program since its humble beginnings in 1984, when he left a similar position as Director of the Criminal Justice Program at William Carey College, in Hattiesburg, MS, where he had taught for 8 years. Prior to William Carey College Dr. Porter taught at the University of Southern Mississippi and was a Police Officer in Petal, Mississippi. Dr. Porter teaches the following courses: Introduction to Criminal Justice, Analysis of Drug Abuse, Police Stress, Police Process, Police Problems and Practices, Deviant Behavior, Mythology of Crime, Human Relations and Police Work, Seminars : American Police Process, American Criminal Justice Process, American Corrections Process.

Dr. Ron Howard: Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of History received his Doctorate from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Howard teaches Constitutional Development I and II.

Dr. Gary Mayfield: Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology, received his Doctorate from Emory University. Dr. Mayfield teaches Law, Crime and Social Control.

Dr. Larry Logue: Associate Professor of History, received his Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and teaches History of Crime in America.

Tricia Nelson: Director of the Paralegal Program, received her MBA from Mississippi College and teaches Judicial Process and Legal Research.

Lt Colonel (Ret.), Stephen C. McCraney: Current Director of Public Safety at Mississippi College. He is a former Commander of a Weapons of Mass Destruction Unit, Community Corrections Associate Director-Probation and Parole, Certified Police Officer who has worked in College, City and State level law enforcement positions. Stephen teaches Police Rights and Responsibilities, Emergency Management, Report Writing and Interpersonal Communication Skills, Domestic Terrorism, and other courses in Homeland Security Studies.  Stephen received his Master of Social Science Degree in Administration of Justice from Mississippi College.

Pamela Spence: Adjunct Professor, is A.B.D. in Criminal Justice at the University of Southern Mississippi and teaches full time at Holmes Community College in Madison. At Mississippi College she teaches Juvenile Justice Process, Child Abuse and Neglect,  Juvenile Gangs, Forensic Science, and Criminal Profiling.

Robert Buescher: Adjunct Professor, received his Masters of Science in Security Science from Sam Houston State University. He has previously worked as a member of Security Forces in the United States Air Force and as a Loss Prevention/Security Manager for Camps and Conference Centers Inc., as an Executive Loss Prevention Team Leader for Target Corporation, and as a Loss Prevention Manager for Kohl's. He teaches Loss Prevention, Cyber Terrorism, Introduction to Physical Security, and International Terrorism.

Bob Louys, Adjunct Professor, received his Master of Social Science degree from Mississippi College and is a retired F.B.I. Special Agent. Bob teaches Organized Crime, Homicide Investigation, and Criminal Investigation.

Curtis Jones, Adjunct Professor, received his Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Delta State University. He has previously worked as the Chief Investigator for the Mississippi Department of Transportation, as Director of Internal Affairs for the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and a Special Projects Director for Mississippi Department of Public Safety. He is currently employed as the Chief Property Officer for the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. Curtis teaches Police Ethics, Police Personnel Administration, Crime Control in America.

Edwardo Martinez, Adjunct Professor, received his Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College and teaches Legal Aspects of Homeland Security and Transportation Security.

Randy Ruffin, received his Masters of Social Science from Mississippi College and is a former F.B.I Special Agent and retired Detective from the Clinton, MS Police Department. Randy teaches Police Process, Arrest, Search and Seizure, and Interpersonal Communication for Law Enforcement Officers.

Lynn Murray, received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi and is a U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Jackson, MS . Lynn teaches Criminal Law.

Carole Hawkins, Adjunct Professor received her Master of Social Science Degree in Administration of Justice from Mississippi College. Ms. Hawkins worked for one year as a Dispatcher for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, for 6 years as a child Support Officer for the Mississippi Department of Human Services, for 4 years as a Correctional Case Manager/ Program Assistant with the female inmates at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility at Pearl, for 7 years as a Victim Advocate for MADD, and is currently a VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) Program Manager for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety Planning. Ms. Hawkins teaches Victimology and Community Based Corrections.
