The Mississippi College Intramural Athletics program is seeking a Graduate Assistant for Intramurals for the 2014-2015 school year. Overview: The Graduate Assistant for Mississippi College Intramural Athletics has numerous responsibilities to ensure that the Intramural Program at Mississippi College runs efficiently and effectively. This person oversees all of the Intramural activities of the college, including season sports, tournaments and special events. The person also oversees Intramural Student Directors and The Graduate Intramural Director reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Life for Student Development.
The responsibilities, requiring approximately 20 hours per week, are as follows:
Scheduling of Intramural Events: Over 25 Intramural events are scheduled throughout the year. Events range from day-long tournaments to full seasons lasting up to 8 weeks.
Coordination of Intramural Events: Each event is planned and organized in a way to keep student interest. Duties include scheduling of games, roster verification, facility maintenance, and responding to general questions from student participants.
Promotion:. Promotion is done through word of mouth, flyers, banners, emails, and website postings.
Website Maintenance: The intramural website and MC’s IMLeagues.com page are updated daily with news and scheduling as to keep students informed about events. The website and IMLeagues.com page play a vital role in promoting events and intramural sponsors.
Sponsorships: Intramurals works with different businesses in the Clinton area to contribute to the Intramural program.
Facility Maintenance: Intramurals uses the multi-purpose fields for most outdoor events. It is the Graduate Director’s responsibility to keep fields lined each week of competition. This individual is also responsible for changing venues in the case of inclement weather.
Coordinating Events with Other Intramural Programs: It is the graduate director's responsibility to coordinate all aspects of these events, including planning and communication with other schools’ Intramural leaders.
Budgeting: The GA for Intramural Athletics, along with the Assistant Director of Student Life for Student Development, maintain the Intramural budget to ensure the intramural program has sufficient supplies for events. Budgeting covers payroll, equipment purchasing, and field rentals.
Supplies and Equipment: The GA must keep track of equipment inventory and update items regularly.
Supervision of Student Staff: MC Intramurals employs 2 to 4 student directors each year to help the graduate director perform the tasks mentioned above. The program also employs student workers who serve as referees for Intramural games. The graduate director must ensure that the student directors are fully prepared for all responsibilities associated with Intramural events.
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Pursuing a Master’s Degree at Mississippi College enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester
- Master’s Degree being pursued in Higher Education Administration or Sports related field preferred
- Experience in working with a college Intramural program or athletic program
- Excellent organizational skills
- Good communication skills and attention to detail
- Good management skills and an appropriate level of assertiveness, leadership, flexibility, creativity and team-building skills
- Excellent people skills to interact with students
- Ability to make good decisions and have a good record of consistency in handling student needs and situations

Salary: The salary for the Graduate Assistant for Intramurals will be $4,250.00 per semester (Fall & Spring only)
