Each year the Office of Global Education hosts a Lunar New Year Party. The date of the event is determined by the lunisolar calendar and begins with the New Moon that falls between January 21st and February 20th. This holiday is very important to our international students who come from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
At past parties, guests were treated to lessons in how to properly use chopsticks for eating, learned how to make dumplings, practiced writing calligraphy with brush and ink, learned how to write using the Korean alphabet, and learned two games: Chinese chess and Yutnori from Korea.
Those attending enjoyed Asian food including oranges and watermelon seeds that are traditionally eaten at Lunar New Year in China.
