About IEP:
Thank you for considering the Intensive English Program (IEP) at Mississippi College. We are located in Clinton, Mississippi, a very friendly, small city in the heart of the deep south and a vibrant part of the metro Jackson area. Clinton has a population of about 27,000. The description that most identify with Mississippi is as The Hospitality State. Our residents are nice and helpful and the pace is slow and relaxed.

Mission Statement:
The IEP is commetted to preparing international students for academic coursework toward an undergraduate or graduate degree. We offer top-notch, intensive English instruction designed to perpare students to have the skills necessary to thrive in their academic studies, the university culture, and the wider community. As committed professionals, we endeavor to accomplish these goals in a supporting, respectful, and understanding environment.

What can students expect from us?
Our classes are provided for students with English fluency levels from beginning to advanced. The goal is to prepare students to be engaged and interactive on their first day of class! As well, students have the opportunity to meet classmates from around the world and to make life-long friendships.
IEP students are required by immigration to attend twenty (20) hours of classes per week. Our classes meet Monday through Thursday, with no classes on Friday. Fridays are free and a good time for students to study or to visit the many attractions on campus or in the area.
Classes include listening and speaking, reading, and writing. What about grammar? Grammar is definitely a part of our curriculum, but grammar and listening are skills that are infused into every class that we offer.
What do students do?
In every class, students are required to participate actively and to submit all assignments in a timely manner. Students will submit class assignments independently through our educational portal called CANVAS.
We take the term "intensive' seriously, so students should be prepared to spend at least two to three hours per day on homework - a crucial part of academic success. Class assignments and work from home are a large part of academic rigor in the educational system in the United States.
How do we stay in touch?
Once accepted to our university (Apply here), students are given an MC student number and an identification card. They are also issued an @mc.edu email account (example: JohnDoe@mc.edu). This is the official email address used for all correspondence.
How do we celebrate cultural diversity?
Events:
The Office of Global Education sponsors four yearly events: Moon Festival, Celebration of Culture, Lunar New Year and International Festival. At each one, students are encouraged to speak about their home country and to share some food, crafts, or information. This allows you to introduce students and friends to your home culture!
Field Trips:
Each semester IEP students can participate in a variety of trips and activities on or off campus. These may include plays, sports events, guest speakers, comedy shows, fashion shows, and more. Your instructor will inform you of these events in advance.
Support for our students:
The IEP at Mississippi College is strongly supported by the university and by our local partners. Campus organizations such as the BSU (Baptist Student Union), Reformed University Fellowship, and the International Student Association serve the international students in many ways.
