Accomplished nursing educator returns home to Mississippi College School of Nursing faculty

Beverly Kaye Wilson-Anderson returns to Mississippi College as a professor in the School of Nursing.

A former assistant professor in the School of Nursing at Mississippi College has returned to the place she began her teaching career.

Beverly Kaye Wilson-Anderson, associate professor at the George Fox University College of Nursing in Newberg, Oregon, has rejoined the School of Nursing faculty as a tenured full professor of nursing. She is teaching maternal-child nursing this fall.

Lisa Wright Eichelberger, interim dean of the MC School of Nursing, served as Wilson-Anderson’s dean from 1987-95 during her first faculty tenure at MC. Eichelberger said the nursing professor’s deep Christian faith has always been first in her life and in her nursing ministry.

“During that time, Dr. Wilson was called to the Gaza Strip and taught in a School of Nursing there for several months,” Eichelberger said. “Kaye was also called to China during that time. We have prayed a lot for Kaye over the years.

“We are so fortunate that God has called her back to MC and I can’t believe I get to work with her again!”

After receiving her B.S.N. from Delta State University, Wilson-Anderson obtained her M.S.N. in nursing/education from the University of Mississippi in Jackson and joined the MC School of Nursing faculty as an instructor. She quickly rose to assistant professor and, after 17 years at MC, joined the University of Mississippi School of Nursing as an assistant professor and director of the Mercy Delta Express Program.

After obtaining her D.N.S. in nursing/education and research from the Louisiana State University Health Center, New Orleans, she rose to associate professor at UM. She later moved to Oregon, where she served as an associate professor at the University of Portland School of Nursing and the George Fox University College of Nursing.

The author or coauthor of 18 articles published in peer-reviewed journals, Wilson-Anderson serves on the editorial board or as a journal and abstract reviewer for the Online Journal of Health Ethics, the Journal of Christian Nursing, and the Journal of Transcultural Nursing.

An active member of the National League for Nursing; the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal; the Western Institute of Nursing; and the Nursing Christian Fellowship, among many others, she has received numerous awards and honors.

Wilson-Anderson has given more than two dozen presentations at scientific meetings nationally and internationally. Her research has focused on her work with “Memory Book Interventions with Orphaned Children” in various countries, including South Africa, Kenya, and India.

“Kaye was one of the first MC nursing faculty to take nursing students abroad when we started the summer elective, ‘Spiritual Aspects of Nursing Care’ in the 1990s in Mexico,” Eichelberger said. “She really has a heart for missions. We are so fortunate to have her back at MC.”
