Calling All Linksters! Popular Mike Jones Golf Tournament to Benefit Mississippi College Athletics

The Mike Jones-MC Athletics Golf Tournament is named for MC’s former athletic director and head men’s basketball coach.

Golf enthusiasts and Mississippi College boosters are invited to participate in the annual Mike Jones-MC Athletics Golf Tournament scheduled for Thursday-Friday, May 12-13, at the Lake Caroline Golf Club in Madison.

Named for MC’s former athletic director and head men’s basketball coach, who led the Choctaws to four American Southwest Conference championships and one Gulf South Conference championship, the tournament is a four-person scramble over three rounds.

Tim Fritts, director of development for athletics at MC, said the Mike Jones-MC Athletics Golf Tournament is a “very special event” for the athletic department.

“While it is a wonderful event for our athletics staff and coaches to meet and share time with our alumni, fans, and supporters, it is also a major event financially for our athletic department, teams, and student-athletes,” Fritts said. “Funds raised will go directly to the athletics department to help in day-to-day operations, and address various needs our teams and coaches may have throughout the year.”

Kenny Bizot, MC athletic director, said the format has been a big hit with golfers and sponsors.

“We are looking forward to this great event, which we will model much the same way as last year’s tournament by scheduling tee times Thursday afternoon, Friday morning, and Friday afternoon,” Bizot said. “We do sign up teams on their preferred days and times on a first-come, first-served basis, so please contact us as soon as possible to lock in your day and tee time.

“We hope you can make plans to participate as we celebrate MC Athletics.”

Registration will open at noon on both days for the afternoon waves, with the first afternoon teams to tee off at 12:30 p.m. Registration will open at 7 a.m. on Friday for the morning wave, with the first morning team to tee off at 7:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. to accommodate all tee times. Two beverage carts with snacks and drinks will be available on the course.

Tournament sponsorship opportunities will be available. Corporate sponsors will receive a banner, one team, and four-season passes for $2,500. Hole sponsors will receive hole signage, one team, and two season passes for $1,200. Team sponsorships cost $600 each, individuals participants cost $150 each, and cart sponsorships cost $100 each. All proceeds benefit Mississippi College Athletics.

Prizes will be awarded to flight winners and to individuals for closest to the hole, longest drive, and longest putt. Each participant also will receive various official tournament prizes.
