Drew Ahlrich Joins Mississippi College Admissions Staff

Drew Ahlrich stayed involved in leadership roles as a Mississippi College student.

The Madison resident served as president of the Shawreth Men’s Club during his senior year. He participated in the MC Dance Marathon to benefit Blair Batson Children’s Hospital. Internships with the Office of Career Services and the admissions office were other notable highlights of his MC experience.

Active with Fondren Church in Jackson, Drew, 22, is passionate about the Christian university. He recently landed the perfect job as an MC admissions counselor. The English literature grad went to work June 1 or just weeks after receiving his diploma.

Recruiting prospective students in North Mississippi, North Louisiana and Arkansas is really a labor of love for Drew Ahlrich.

“MC is absolutely a place where your friends become your family. I want to help all kinds of high school students find that here,” he said. “I am also thrilled to work with the admissions team because they are such a supportive and collaborative group.”

The 2016 Madison Central High graduate relished life at Mississippi College from day one. “I found the best friends and grew so much while I was here. I know this place is so special because of the shared love and commitment to Christ.”

Ahlrich is already impressing his colleagues in Nelson Hall.

The director of freshman recruitment, Michael Wright sums up Drew’s best qualities in a few words. “Relentless energy and servant-hearted nature” come to mind, he says.

Now living in Madison, Drew is making plans to move to Clinton in a few months. He enjoys being in close proximity to the Clinton campus and all things Blue & Gold.

As a high school senior he was drawn to Mississippi College as a student because of its small, close-knit family appeal and Christian environment. There are some MC family connections, too.

His maternal grandfather Peter Green graduated from Mississippi College in the post-World War II era of the late 1940s. His paternal grandmother Lois Jane Ahlrich was a 1959 MC alumna.

As a recruiter, Drew adjusted his way of working because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The health emergency is resulting in more virtual options for many people worldwide. For the MC alumnus that includes more virtual high school visits in his tri-state region along with online college fairs.

Promoting the university’s strong academic programs, diverse mix of student organizations and career opportunities, he’s got a few new things to mention to prospective students. A Chick-fil-A restaurant on the Clinton campus opens for business on August 18. An Einstein Bros. Bagels will be located near Chick-fil-A in Alumni Hall’s Commons area in late September. MC is already home to many Chick-fil-A customers from across the USA.

Students “are very excited about it,” he says. “I think it was a wonderful decision, and I’m excited to see it open!”

Away from his daily duties in the admissions office at the Baptist-affiliated university, Drew likes watching movies, traveling and kayaking.
