MC Law Graduate Paula Henderson Broome Receives National Award

MC Law graduate Paula Broome received the Sharon L. Corbitt Award at the American Bar Association's meeting in San Francisco in August. ABA colleagues joined the special assistant Mississippi attorney general.

Paula Henderson Broome remains a staunch advocate for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse or stalking.

The American Bar Association recently recognized the Mississippi College Law School graduate for her achievements in that arena.

Broome received the ABA’s Sharon L. Corbitt Award at the association’s annual meeting in San Francisco in August. The national award is named for an attorney who’s served as a longtime victims’ advocate.

Paula Broome works as a special assistant attorney general in Jackson. She serves as deputy director of the Mississippi Attorney General’s Bureau of Victim Assistance. Prior to that, she developed the Family Violence and Victim Services Program for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians near Philadelphia.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the ABA and to have been nominated by my dear friend, the late MC Law professor Jeffrey Jackson,” Broome said. “I am proud of the work we have done and the progress Mississippi has made over the years.”

Attorney General Jim Hood saluted the award winner announced on August 11.

“An ABA award is the pinnacle of a lawyer’s career, and Paula deserves this high honor,” Hood said. “She works day in and out to make sure victims of domestic violence or sexual assault have the assistance and resources they need.”

MC Law Dean Wendy Scott praised Broome’s achievements.

“The ABA continues to recognize the great work of MC Law alumni working on behalf of children and families,” Scott said. “We proudly celebrate attorney Broome who works tirelessly to protect the citizens of Mississippi.”

Broome received her bachelor’s degree at Millsaps College in Jackson and a master’s from Northeastern University in Boston.
