Mississippi Banner Users Group Convenes in Natchez

Cindy Hampton, president of the Mississippi Banner Users Group, promises their annual conference in Natchez will blend a ton of useful information with a little fun.

Hampton encourages all Banner users at Mississippi College to consider attending the conference at the Natchez Convention Center Sept. 20-22. The Sunday evening gathering to kick things off will be at the historic Dunleith antebellum home.

"It is a great place to network with other Banner users in our state," Hampton said of the three-day conference in the Southwest Mississippi city that's rich in history. Cities in North Mississippi hosted the MBUG conference in recent years.

The guest speaker Monday Sept. 21 is Clyde Webber, clerk of the court for Concordia Parish in Louisiana. Known to his friends as "Clyde Ray," Webber doubles as a humorist, so his remarks should be spiced with a bunch of funny one-liners.

MC's trainer/help desk coordinator with the office of computer services, Hampton will join others on the MBUG board making the trip from the Clinton campus. They are Angie Miller of the computer services office and Anna Warren of the registrar's office.

Warren recently succeeded human resources director Marilyn Sauls, who served on the board for many years.

"Marilyn has served on the MBUG board for many years and her service to the organization has been valuable and greatly appreciated," Hampton said. "She will be missed." Sauls will be leaving her MC post later this year to move to Georgia with her family.

The MBUG group includes 14 member institutions such as Mississippi State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Delta State University, Mississippi University for Women, Pearl River Community College, Itawamba Community College, Jackson State University and Alcorn State University.

Miller, a computer programmer and analyst at MC, is serving as the conference program chair. People can contact her to suggest conference topics that should be covered. Topics expected to be highlighted include on-line applications and how to better use Banner for college graduations.

Vendors will also demonstrate their products at the Natchez meetings.

About 300 people will attend and share their ideas. "We all have the same issues we have to deal with," Miller said.

Banner users can be found at college and universities from all over the nation and in other countries.

Hampton will wind up her duties as president this fall. Phillip Brooks of Meridian Community College will take the reins as president towards the final stages of the meeting.
