Mississippi College music faculty to teach by performing at first Showcase Recital

Robert Knupp, MC associate professor of music, will perform a selection on the organ during the Department of Music's Faculty Showcase Recital.

Faculty in the Department of Music at Mississippi College will swap places with their students to perform a Showcase Recital at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, in the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall in the Aven Fine Arts Building on the Clinton campus. The performance is free and open to the public.

Ben Williams, MC associate professor and chair of music, said the event will allow students to learn through watching their faculty perform.

“Our students always express how much they appreciate and learn from watching and hearing the faculty perform,” Williams said. “We decided to put on a performance where we could all take the stage for a bit.”

He said most of the music majors and minors will be in attendance as part of their regular class requirements.

Featured faculty performers include:

* Williams and Michael Rushing, MC professor and director of the Taylor School of Music, will play one of Williams’ compositions, “Sleuthhound,” on the piano.

* Robert Knupp, MC associate professor of music, will play the Finale from Sonata 1 by French composer Alessandre Guilmant on the organ.

* Knupp and Renee Wilson, MC associate professor of music, will play “Suite Antique” by English composer John Rutter on the flute and piano

* Duval Salvant, MC director of bands, will play “New England Reveries” by American composer Neal Corwell on the tuba.

* Brett Causey, MC adjunct faculty of music, and Tyler Kemp, MC faculty accompanist and technology instructor, will play "Sonata in C Sharp Minor" on saxophone and the piano.

* Knupp and Beth Everett, MC assistant professor and director of choral activities, will perform “Sea Pictures” by English composer Edward Elgar on voice and piano.
