Ms. Wheelchair America Visits Mississippi College
Given a 10 percent chance of survival at birth, Dr. Alette Coble-Temple overcame major obstacles in her path to become a successful clinical psychologist in California.
The reigning Ms. Wheelchair America, Alette remains a passionate advocate for disabled people across the United States. She will tell her story during a visit to Mississippi College on November 16. The 7:30 p.m. event at Swor Auditorium that Monday evening is free and open to the public.
A professor at John F. Kennedy University, Coble-Temple captured the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2016 during the summer pageant in Des Moines, Iowa.
She competed against incredible candidates from 24 other states, including Mississippi College senior Lauren Compere.
The current Ms. Wheelchair Mississippi, Lauren developed a close bond with the California resident during the competition in Iowa July 27-August 2.
Their friendship opened doors for Alette to speak at Mississippi College this fall.
Dr. Alette Coble-Temple “is one of the most dynamic and powerful advocates for individuals affected by disability that I have ever met,” Compere says. “You do not want to miss learning from and meeting this world changer!”
A psychology major on the Clinton campus and a Madison resident, Lauren finished as runner-up in the national pageant. She’s a Madison Central High graduate and an inspiration to many on and off the Clinton campus.
Coble-Temple serves as a member of the Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology. A licensed psychologist since 2001, she helps people with severe speech impediments.
Much in demand as a motivational speaker, Coble-Temple will also get the opportunity to spread her message during an upcoming interview on STAR 93.5, the Christian radio station at Mississippi College.
