The newly established Carla Morris Stringer Scholarship stands as a testament to her unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Carla Morris Stringer's dedication to the field of nursing is inspiring. With a vision to empower aspiring nurses and alleviate their financial burdens, the Clinton native and third-generation nurse has endowed a scholarship that will forever alter the trajectory of deserving students' lives.

The criteria for the Carla Morris Stringer Scholarship reflect her values and aspirations for the nursing profession. First and foremost, it is awarded by faculty and staff in the Nursing Department, a fitting tribute to Stringer's deep connection to the discipline. The scholarship seeks students who embody the spirit of dedication and perseverance she displayed as a nurse, giving preference to those who have attended Mississippi College since their freshman year and have been accepted into the Nursing School during their junior year. Recipients must demonstrate academic prowess and a steadfast commitment to their chosen path.

With a minimum GPA requirement of 3.0, applicants are expected to exemplify academic excellence, a quality that Stringer undoubtedly valued in her own journey. Beyond academic achievements, the scholarship committee places equal importance on character and involvement in extracurricular activities. As an  adjunct professor at Southwest Mississippi Community College, Stringer understands that a well-rounded education encompasses not only scholarly pursuits but also active participation in clubs or tribes, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among peers.

Her vision for the scholarship is clear: to provide immediate support to deserving students while ensuring sustained assistance for generations to come. 

As benefactor of the scholarship, Stringer said she is privileged to support the next generation of compassionate caregivers who will make a difference in healthcare.

To me, nursing is more than just a profession; it is a calling, a vocation rooted in empathy, dedication, and a profound commitment to serving others, Stringer said. Having personally witnessed the invaluable impact nurses have on patients and their families during times of vulnerability, I recognize the importance of nurturing and empowering aspiring nurses who are driven to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
