Haley Rose Gunter Special Needs Scholarship
This generous scholarship in honor of Haley Rose Gunter recognizes and supports an outstanding student in the School of Education who plans to teach and work with special needs children.
Mr and Mrs George Dale, have established a generous scholarship in honor of their granddaughter, Haley Rose Gunter to recognize and support an outstanding student in the School of Education who plans to teach and work with children who have special needs.
The Dales attend awards ceremony, meet the scholarship recipient throughout the year, and invite the honoree to meet Haley Rose, who has been diagnosed with autism. The Dales have seen first-hand the impact that a teacher can have on a family and support of education throughout our state.
A former Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture, and the nation’s longest serving insurance commissioner, George Dale, has a heart for serving others. The Clinton native received two degrees from MC and taught and coached in Mississippi for more than a decade.
His daughter, Donna, followed in his footsteps as a public school educator. Dale can often be found filling in as a substitute in local classrooms or mowing yards around town free of charge. In addition to the scholarship, the Dales and their son have also generously funded an autism conference at MC.
“Their generosity has made it possible for many of our students to take the additional coursework and earn a certification to teach children with special needs,” said Cindy Melton, dean of the MC School of Education. “ We are honored to have such incredible support for our students and our programs and for the profession of teaching. The Dales have made an impact on many students who are now pouring into the lives of children and families in our community and all around our state.”
