Milwaukee Tool Supports MC Art Department
About $15,000 worth of equipment gifted to the Mississippi College Art department by Milwaukee Tool will help to bring internationally known artist Samuel Gore’s vision for the department to life.
The old Clinton Junior High School building has been transformed into a beautiful building resource for MC students and community members to use.
“Sam Gore envisioned it to be a community-based arts facility where members of the Clinton community could come and engage alongside MC students,” said MC President Blake Thompson “Local students, retirees, adults, and others can be a part of what we’re building at MC and will benefit from this gift.&rdquo
The Gore Arts Complex opened at the beginning of the 2023 spring semester. A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place later this year.. The Milwaukee Tool donation has already been put to use in the Gore Arts Complex. Randolph Miley, MC professor and chair of art, said a nine-and-a-half-foot table Gore lovingly built in an upstairs room years ago had been disassembled, moved to the first-floor woodworking studio, reassembled, and reinforced using the donated equipment.
Nathan Jarnagin, Gore Arts Complex coordinator, said the tools have been used to hang the artwork and build tables in the facility. Last fall, Milwaukee Tool made a $7 million corporate investment in Mississippi by leasing space and expanding its operation in the state. Greyson Smothers, the company’s supply planning analyst, said the donation to MC continues the company’s synergistic relationship with the community.
