Vickery Scholarship Invests in Future Generations
Ann and Harry Vickery Scholarship - Given by son Edwin Vickery
Harry Edwin Vickery devoted much of his life to Mississippi College. He served the Board of Trustees in several capacities including being Chairman. Vickery met the love of his life, Ann Elizabeth Hall, attending junior high school in Houston, Mississippi. The couple married in May 1957 and enjoyed 63 years together.
He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from MC in 1957. Among many other awards he received from MC after his graduation are the Humanity Award in 1976 and the Alumnus of the Year Award in 1988.
Vickery began his business career in the automotive dealership business in Houston, MS. He eventually relocated to Greenville where he owned and operated the Kossman-Vickery Rambler Lincoln dealership for many years and then Vickery Chevrolet for almost 30 years.
The Vickerys have three children: Lisa Vickery Kelly, Edwin Vickery, and Carey Vickery Thomasian - all three of which attended MC. Continuing the MC tradition, Edwin’s daughter, Susan Hall Vickery Anderson and her husband, Stephen Anderson M. D., are both MC graduates.
In honor of his parents’ love for and service to Mississippi College, Edwin Vickery established the Ann and Harry Vickery Scholarship. He explained how much MC meant to his father and wanted to continue his legacy. The scholarship will provide financial support for MC students for years to come.
MC President Blake Thompson and members of the MC Foundation visited with Ann Vickery and her daughter Lisa Vickery Kelly at the newly renovated Latimer House on MC’s campus. The Vickery’s met several MC students who are beneficiaries of scholarships like the Ann and Harry Vickery Scholarship.
The Vickery family’s impact on MC through the decades has been significant. The newly created scholarship will ensure the family’s legacy will endure for many more.
