Assistant Dean for Information, Technology and Legal Research - School of Law

Mississippi College School of Law seeks an Assistant Dean for Information, Technology and Legal Research. This position is a 12-month tenured/tenure-track law faculty appointment. The Assistant Dean will provide strategic direction and vision for the library, working collaboratively with professional librarians and library staff to meet the law school's educational mission through the provision and management of library resources and services. The Assistant Dean reports directly to the Law School Dean and is a member of the Law School administrative leadership team.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Dean is expected to demonstrate ability in the following areas:

  • Performance of library operations supporting instructional and research programs
  • Preparation of administrative studies and long-range plans
  • High level performance and creativity in areas of administrative responsibility
  • Diligent pursuit of library problems and the promotion of their solutions
  • Creative achievement in library design and configuration
  • Within the resources available, skillful development of the library collection
  • Within the resources available, recruitment, training, and retention of qualified library staff
  • Maintaining knowledge of and within the resources available, applying contemporary library science and techniques
  • Teaching upper-level research courses and collaborating with other library faculty teaching research courses

Education and Experience

Applicants must have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school and must possess a wide understanding of contemporary issues affecting legal education, libraries, and information technology. Applicants must also have a minimum of five years of administrative experience in a law library; a demonstrated capacity to lead library faculty and staff and to manage complex projects; broad knowledge of all law library processes, functions, and operations, including electronic library functions, new and emerging technologies that affect the library, legal research, and legal education; and experience working with a diverse population of library users.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
