Mississippi College Residence Life Apartment Selection Policy
I. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide a fair, transparent, and merit-based system for assigning
on-campus apartment housing. This selection process prioritizes students based on academic
standing, residential experience, conduct history, and other relevant factors.
II. Eligibility
Students applying for on-campus apartments must meet the following criteria:
- Be a full-time undergraduate student at Mississippi College.
- Maintain good academic and disciplinary standing.
- Submit a completed housing application by the designated deadline.
III. Selection Criteria & Point System
Each applicant will be assigned points based on the following factors:

Class Standing (Maximum: 10 points)
- Rising Senior (90+ credit hours): 10 points
- Rising Junior (60–89 credit hours): 7 points
- Rising Sophomore (30–59 credit hours): 4 points
- Freshman (under 30 credit hours): 1 point

GPA (Maximum: 5 points)
- 3.75 – 4.00: 5 points
- 3.50 – 3.74: 4 points
- 3.00 – 3.49: 3 points
- 2.50 – 2.99: 2 points
- Below 2.50: 0 points

Disciplinary Record (Maximum: 5 points)
- No conduct violations: 5 points
- Minor infraction(s) (as determined by Residence Life): 2 points
- Major infraction(s) (as determined by Student Conduct Office): 0 points

Residence Life Tenure (Maximum: 5 points)
- Lived on campus for 3+ years: 5 points
- Lived on campus for 2 years: 3 points
- Lived on campus for 1 year: 1 point
- First-year applicant: 0 points

Roommate Group Bonus (Maximum: 5 points)
- All roommates have a combined average score of 22+ points: 5 extra points
- Roommate group has at least two members with 17+ points: 3 extra points
- No bonus for groups below these thresholds.
IV. Tie-Breaking Criteria
In the event of a tie, selection priority will be determined by the following factors, in order:
- Total number of years living on campus.
- Highest combined GPA among the apartment group.
- Random lottery (conducted by the Residence Life Office).
V. Notification and Appeals
- Students will be notified of their apartment selection results via email.
- If a student believes there was an error in their point calculation, they may submit an appeal to the Residence Life Office within 48 hours of notification.
- Appeals will be reviewed by a committee, and decisions will be final.
VI. Implementation & Enforcement
- The Residence Life Office will oversee the selection process, ensuring all criteria are applied fairly and consistently.
- Any falsification of application information will result in disqualification from apartment selection and may lead to further disciplinary action.
- This policy is subject to annual review and updates by the Residence Life Office.
University Place Apartment Application Instructions
*If you are not currently living on campus you cannot apply for University Place*
Please follow the steps below. Reminder: You need to have a group of 4 for University Place.
- For University Place Apartments, create your roommate group (4 people per apartment) labeled "University Place - YOUR UNIQUE GROUP NAME"
- Designate someone from your apartment group to create your group's name and invite all members. Remember that only 1 person from the group needs to create the group. (See this guide for additional instructions - How to Apply for Housing and Create a Roommate Group)
- The group leader add all the members of the group. Those individuals will need to accept the request.
- If you do not get an apartment or want to live in another residence hall, you will return to the housing application on your assigned priority date.
