Fire Emergency Procedures

Before a Fire

1. Know the location of all fire alarm stations in your buildings and how to activate them.
2. Know the location of the portable Fire extinguishers and how to use them.  (They are on each floor of each dorm.)
3. Know the location of alternate means of exit.

Upon Discovering a Fire

1. Sound the fire alarm immediately to alert residents.
2. Call the RA On Call or Campus Security at 601.025.3359 and report the fire.
3. Shut all doors and windows in the immediate vicinity of the fire.
4. Vacate the building by the nearest accessible exit.
5. Upon hearing the fire alarm sound:
   1. Raise window shades all the way.
   2. Close all windows tightly.
   3. Put on shoes and coat. Take a towel along to cover face.
   4. Vacate the building by the nearest accessible exit.

Chrestman Hall

• Main fire alarm switch in lobby on first floor
• Fire alarm boxes on each floor near stairs and down each wing
• Fire extinguishers on each floor in cases

CC/Quick Halls

• Main fire alarm switch in the technical room
• Fire alarm pull stations on each floor
• Fire extinguishers on each floor in cases

East Tower

• Main fire alarm switch in the technical room
• Fire alarm pull stations on each floor
• Fire extinguishers on each floor in cases

Gunter Hall

• Main fire alarm switch in the technical room
• Fire alarm pull stations on each floor
• Fire extinguishers on each floor in cases

Hederman Hall

• Main fire alarm switch in lobby of Hederman Hall
• Fire alarm boxes on each floor at each end of the hall
• Fire extinguishers on each floor near the center of the hall

Latimer-Webb Hall

• Main fire alarm switch in hall on first floor near lobby door
• Fire alarm switches on each floor near the stairs
• Fire extinguishers on each floor near the center of the hallway

Mary Nelson Hall

• Main fire alarm switch in lobby on first floor
• Fire alarm switches on each floor near the stairs
• Fire extinguishers on each floor near the fire alarm boxes

West Tower

• Main fire alarm switch in the technical room
• Fire alarm pull stations on each floor
• Fire extinguishers on each floor in cases

Whittington Hall

• Main fire alarm switch in hallway near lobby
• Fire alarm switches on each floor near stairs
• Fire extinguishers on each floor in cages
