Home Away From Home: Residence Life at MC

New year! New dorm! New home!

There is truly nothing more special to me than residence life here at MC. Growing up I had my own room, my own space, and I was always content. I never knew any different. The prospect of coming to MC as an introverted person and living in a dorm with hundreds of other students was terrifying to me. And on top of it all, I share a small room with another person! There are so many unknowns to encounter, I mean, how much can you find out about people off of a roommate portal, right?

What I was not ready for was the true concrete community I found with ResLife at MC. I never knew what I had been missing out on. I get to brush my teeth in front of the mirror with 20 other girls who make me laugh so hard I spit out my toothpaste. I get to have late night dance parties with my roommate. I am one knock away from a spontaneous Krispy Kreme donut run. I even get to listen to how the Lord is working in their lives. And I love every second of it.

The funny irony about the phrase “home away from home” is that I wouldn't use it to label my dorm building, or my dorm room, or even my comfy bed, but I use it for the people I have the privilege to do life with because of dorm life. They push me every day to simply be kind, live with a mindset of service to one another, and despite our differences, love each other as Christ loves us. And sure, we don't get along 100% of the time, and life isn't perfect, but it's real, genuine family.

Sincerely, MC
